Grandma and Grandpa Rifkin Visit and Trip to Crested Butte

Grandma Laura and Grandpa Michael came to visit at the end of February/beginning of March.

Besides the monkeys and lions, "train" is clearly Dylan's favorite zoo mammal.

Dylan was tentative to rip down the Headwall at Crested Butte. He preferred wandering in and out of the snow cave near our condo.

"HOT!" There were two big firepits in the village at the base of Crested Butte. Dylan loved throwing small chunks of snow into the flames and watching them sizzle and melt. He was very aware that the flames were hot and reminded us incessantly!

"Stair Chute" was Dylan's first foray into freeskiing. Lest you discount this chute for it's carpeted steeps and don't believe it holds muster with more famous runs such as Corbet's Couloir, I'll provide a few points for consideration: while Stair Chute is significantly shorter than Corbet's, it is still a 45-degree pitch, extremely narrow and ended in a mound of electronics and cables. Lest you doubt Dylan's cojones in the matter, neither Ben nor Jamie attempted the run...

A word to parents wanting to initiate their young children to skiing: start with the vehicles. Dylan couldn't get enough of the groomer's "beep, beep, beep."

"Muh SKIIIIIIS!"

Thank you Grandpa and Grandma for an unforgettable week!
